Diomande scored 13 goals and contributed 10 assists across 36 appearances in his only Bundesliga season before leaving for the Bernabeu on a seven-year contract.

The club's attempts to reinvest quickly have already hit a wall. A deal to sign Hoffenheim striker Fisnik Asllani, Leipzig's primary target for a centre-forward, collapsed on August 7 after medical concerns emerged during his examination at the club's Austrian training camp.
