Mohamed Saeed

MENA Region and Europe Football Correspondent

I began my journalism career in 2011, initially specializing in investigative reporting. This experience allowed me to explore different fields in depth, develop strong analytical skills, and build a solid foundation in journalism. Eventually, I decided to pursue my first passion: football. I went on to cover the Egyptian national teams across all age groups, while expanding my coverage to include the global game and its biggest stories.

My passion for football began on the pitch, where I played for the youth teams of several Egyptian clubs. That early experience shaped my understanding of the game and fueled my desire to follow football at every level. My journey as a fan of the global game dates back to the 1998 FIFA World Cup, alongside a deep-rooted interest in Egyptian domestic football. However, my connection with the game has never been limited to watching matches on television. I have consistently followed my favorite team, Zamalek, from the stands, experiencing the atmosphere, emotions, and intensity of Egyptian football firsthand. As one of the most successful clubs of the 20th century, Zamalek holds a special place in my football journey.

On the European stage, AC Milan has always been my favorite club, largely because of my admiration for legendary players such as George Weah, Paolo Maldini, Gennaro Gattuso, Kaká, Andrea Pirlo, Ronaldinho, and Clarence Seedorf. My appreciation for these football icons has also made watching historic El Clásico encounters between Real Madrid and Barcelona even more enjoyable, allowing me to appreciate the rivalry without taking sides in the endless debates between their supporters. Among all my football memories, one stands above the rest: AC Milan’s redemption against Liverpool in the 2007 UEFA Champions League final, when Filippo Inzaghi scored a historic brace to secure a memorable victory.

Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to work with two of the Middle East’s leading sports platforms, Kooora and GOAL.com. These experiences have given me extensive knowledge of both Arab and international football, while allowing me to develop my skills across different areas of sports journalism and digital content. In 2022, I was honored to become a member of the Egyptian Journalists Syndicate, marking an important milestone in my professional journey. In January 2026, I took another significant step in my career by transitioning to the English-language edition of GOAL.com, broadening my experience in international football journalism and English-language sports content while continuing to pursue my passion for telling the stories that make football the world's game.

  1. Xabi Alonso

Alonso backed to make Real Madrid return by ex-team-mate

Xabi Alonso’s tenure at Real Madrid may have ended prematurely this year, but former team-mate Sami Khedira is adamant that the Spaniard’s story at the Santiago Bernabeu is far from over. The Basque tactician, who achieved legendary status after leading Bayer Leverkusen to a historic domestic double in 2024, was forced to pack his bags in the Spanish capital after just half a season in charge. However, the legacy he left behind in Germany and his tactical acumen continue to fuel talk of an eventual blockbuster return to the dugout of the 15-time European champions.

  2. Marsch hits back at Allardyce over Leeds row

The fallout from Leeds United’s painful slide out of the Premier League continues to simmer, as Jesse Marsch has launched a scathing rebuttal to claims made by his successor, Sam Allardyce. The American coach, who was tasked with the unenviable job of following the iconic Marcelo Bielsa at Elland Road, has found himself at the centre of a war of words regarding the physical state of the squad during the club's ill-fated 2022-23 campaign. While the Whites eventually succumbed to the drop, the debate over who is to blame for the erosion of Bielsa’s high-intensity blueprint has now reached a boiling point on social media.

  3. Toney roasts Saudi Pro League rival over 'bad breath'

England international Ivan Toney has found himself at the centre of one of the more bizarre flashpoints of the Saudi Pro League season following Al-Ahli’s narrow victory over Damac. The former Brentford talisman, who has been in clinical form since his high-profile move to the Middle East, was involved in a heated and unusual exchange with an opposition defender that quickly went viral across social media platforms. While the match itself was a tight affair decided by a single goal, the post-match fallout has been dominated by Toney’s blunt assessment of his opponent's personal hygiene.

  4. Clubs go on strike over 'judicial persecution' of Argentine FA president

In a stunning move that has sent shockwaves through South American football, professional clubs across Argentina have collectively agreed to go on strike. The decision, announced on Monday, serves as a direct protest against what footballing authorities have described as "judicial persecution" directed at Argentine Football Association (AFA) president Claudio Tapia. The work stoppage is set to bring the domestic game to a grinding halt between March 5 and 8.

  5. Hernandez breaks down over viral baby monkey

Former Manchester United striker Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez showed his sensitive and compassionate side after being reduced to tears by a viral sensation. The 37-year-old Mexican legend took to social media to share his heartfelt reaction to the story of Punch, a baby macaque at Japan’s Ichikawa City Zoo. The infant monkey has gained global sympathy after being rejected by its parents and seeking solace in a stuffed orangutan toy.

  7. James Milner

Milner feared retirement before record break

James Milner has reached the pinnacle of Premier League longevity, but the Brighton veteran has revealed that he nearly walked away from the game just months before making history. The 40-year-old veteran officially became the division's all-time record appearance maker on Saturday, surpassing Gareth Barry's previous benchmark by starting in his 654th Premier League game during the Seagulls' clinical 2-0 victory over Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.

  8. Ferdinand defends Mourinho over Vinicius storm

Rio Ferdinand has jumped to the defence of Jose Mourinho amidst a growing firestorm surrounding the Benfica manager's handling of racism allegations made by Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Jr. The Manchester United legend insists the former coach is not a racist and believes he will regret his approach to the incident that marred last week's Champions League showdown.
