Borussia Dortmund are willing to consider allowing Shinji Kagawa to leave the club, Sporting Director Michael Zorc has suggested.
The Japanese international is rumoured to be a target for La Liga leaders Sevilla, and recently admitted that he has a desire to play in Spain.
The playmaker had last season cut short by injury and has struggled to regain his starting berth in a hugely impressive Dortmund side, with Marco Reus being coach Lucien Favre’s preferred option in attacking midfield.
Speaking to Ruhr Nachtrichten, Zorc confessed that the club were empathetic to Kagawa’s current predicament.
He said: “He is a deserving player and of course we can understand that the situation is unsatisfactory for him and we will certainly talk about it during the winter break if that's what we want”.
Kagawa has made just two league appearance this year. As well as Reus, the 29-year-old faces competition from a throng of young attacking talent such as Jadon Sancho and Christian Pulisic.
Recent comments to Nikkan Sports expressed his wish to pursue first team football, and suggested that Spain would be his destination of choice.
Kagawa called a potential move to Spanish football "the most important challenge in my career", having already enjoyed stints in both England and Germany.
The midfielder has played 216 times for Dortmund over two stints with the club and is under contract at the Westfalenstadion until 2020. He is not the only experienced talent on the periphery of Favre’s plans, however, with Mario Gotze having made just five appearances in the league
As well as supposed interest from Sevilla, Kagawa is target for fellow Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart. In light of Kagawa’s comments, Sevilla are justifiably believed to be in pole position for his signature should he leave Germany.
