Kagera Sugar defeat Tanzania Prisons as Coastal Union draw with Mbeya City

Kagera Sugar have moved to ninth position in the Tanzania Mainland League after a slim 1-0 win away to Tanzania Prisons.

The lone goal came courtesy of Hassan Mwaterema in the second half.

The Sugar Millers came into the match knowing it would not be easy considering the fact that the administrative side had won three of their last five home games, drawing once and losing once. They had also conceded only one goal in the process.

The Bukoba-based charges have not been doing well on the road and had managed to get just two points from their last five games on the road. They have lost three, conceding eight goals in the process and scoring just three.

On Saturday, they were playing a team they had met 16 times, claiming four wins, drawing 10 times, and losing the remaining two matches.

Neither of the two teams could get a goal in the first 45 minutes as they resorted to cautious play.

However, it all changed in the 63rd minute when concentration lapses in the home team allowed Hassan Mwaterema to score what turned out to be the winning goal.

As a result, Kagera have now managed to get 18 points from the 14 games they have played. They have so far won five games, drawn three and lost six matches.

The loss is the fifth one for Tanzania Prisons out of the 14 matches played. They have won five games as well and drawn four.

In another league game played on Saturday, Coastal Union were held to a goalless draw by visiting Mbeya City.

It was the fifth draw for Coastal in the 14 games played this season. They have won four matches and lost as many, and as a result, they are now 10th on the log with 17 points.

Mbeya registered their sixth draw from the same number of matches, losing as many and losing twice. They are currently placed 15th with 12 points.

On Sunday, leaders Young Africans (Yanga SC) will be at home against Ruvu Shooting while Mtibwa Sugar will entertain Mwadui. Another game will be between Ihefu FC who will be welcoming JKT Tanzania.
