Chelsea v Arsenal Live Commentary, 06/11/2022

0 - 1
Gabriel Magalhães (63)
Stamford Bridge

Arsenal have made another convincing case for being serious title contenders then. With just one more league game before the World Cup, there's a good chance they could stay top of the league until Christmas. After that, who knows? That's all for now. Goodbye!
This result sends Arsenal back to the top of the Premier League table, two points ahead of Manchester City. Arteta's men dominated possession and limited their hosts to just five shots, their lowest total in a Premier League game this season. There's no argument the visitors were the better side. Chelsea stay seventh, winless in their last four league games.
Gabriel's header from a corner hands Arsenal a big win at Stamford Bridge! The Gunners were the more proactive side throughout and deserve the win for their energy and tenacity. Chelsea put up a fight but didn't really trouble the visitors at all, even after going behind.
90' + 6' Ramsdale takes the free-kick, and Arsenal hold the ball up down their left. They earn and take a throw-in, and that's that!
90' + 5' Chelsea try in vain to pump the ball forward, but Sterling strays offside. That will probably be their last chance to score.
R. Holding
Gabriel Martinelli
90' + 4' Arsenal bring on a defender to see out the last minute or so. Holding replaces Martinelli.
90' + 2' Xhaka holds the ball up near the corner flag, hands Chelsea a goal-kick and prevents them from taking it quickly. Chalobah confronts the Swiss midfielder, leading several players to wade into the discussion. Arsenal are seeing this game out perfectly.
90' Chelsea are showing no signs of grabbing an equaliser, but there's still time. Five added minutes of it, in fact.
R. Sterling
Yellow Card
89' Sterling accepts a yellow card for brushing over Partey. The England winger's a tad unfortunate.
88' Jorginho clears Saka's right-wing cross. White flings another ball into the box, and Mendy catches it without difficulty.
Mohamed Elneny
M. Ødegaard
87' Arsenal look intent to shut this game down. Elneny replaces Odegaard in central midfield.
86' Odegaard's delivery gets headed away and Mendy claims the ball back in. Chelsea send it forward too quickly for Broja, who's offside again.
C. Gallagher
Yellow Card
85' Tierney gets the better of Gallagher down the wing. Gallagher tugs the Scot down and takes the yellow card.
85' Arsenal still look threatening up front though. Jesus tries to find Saka's run down the right but puts too much power on the pass.
83' Chelsea are starting to put Arsenal under sustained pressure for the first time. The hosts force a corner down their right. It lands to Cucurella, who can't get his feet together before his shot is closed down.
81' There's a brief VAR check after Cucurella handles Jesus' flick in the corner of his own box. The officials decide not to punish him for it.
B. White
Yellow Card
80' White's booked for wasting time. Arsenal are understandably keen to preserve their narrow lead.

76' Saliba dances down the right for Arsenal but can't find the right cross. Cucurella meets Gabriel's crossfield pass. Arsenal keep on coming, and Chelsea have nowhere to go.
75' White's low cross from the right is blocked. Xhaka has a crack at goal from range. That's blocked too.
74' Broja skips past a defender to reach the byline, but Gallagher misses his cutback! Arsenal race upfield and Odegaard curls wide from the edge of the box.
72' Chelsea venture forward, but Broja is offside. The Blues are about to make another change or two.
70' A quick word on Gabriel's goal. That's his second Premier League goal of the season, and his 10th goal overall for Arsenal. They've all been from corners. Arsenal have scored in each of their last 14 Premier League games. They're irrepressible this season.
68' Saka torments Chelsea some more, firing off-target from a difficult angle before forcing Mendy to race off his line to swipe the ball away seconds later.
66' Arsenal look full of confidence now. Odegaard isn't too far away from finding Jesus's run down the left.
C. Gallagher
K. Havertz
64' Havertz also gets the hook. On comes Gallagher for Chelsea.

T. Chalobah
Yellow Card
60' Chalobah becomes Chelsea's latest player to see a yellow card for impeding Jesus.
59' Play resumes, and Arsenal keep the ball for a while. They're still just about on top, but they have nothing to show for it yet.
57' Both teams come over to the technical area for some drinks and tactical advice. It's been a game of fine margins so far.
56' Arsenal get a corner which they take short. Odegaard sends a dipping cross into the centre with his left foot. Partey meets it but heads wide.
55' Chelsea's free-kick doesn't lead to much. Up the other end, Mendy wafts Jesus' cross out for a throw-in.
53' Partey fires a pass into the feet of Martinelli, who's outmuscled. Loftus-Cheek powers down the right and gets shrugged over by the Ghanaian. Chelsea free-kick.
César Azpilicueta
Yellow Card
51' Azpilicueta's shown the yellow card for catching Martinelli with a high foot. The Chelsea captain isn't happy with the decision.
49' Arsenal play themselves into a spot of bother as Saliba passes straight to Aubameyang in his own box. The Frenchman makes amends by charging down the forward's shot. Chelsea get a corner which quickly turns into another that's cleared.
48' Saka's corner doesn't make it past Aubameyang. Havertz handles the ball as he closes down White's pass.
47' Cucurella hands Arsenal another free-kick down their right. Odegaard sends it towards the near post. Silva heads it out for a corner.
46' Arsenal get the second half started. Neither team has seen fit to make changes during the break.
This is only the second time that Arsenal have been drawing 0-0 at half-time in the Premier League this season. It's Chelsea's fifth such game. Aubameyang had just four touches in the first half and across their last two league games at Stamford Bridge, the Blues have been outshot by 15 to six in the opening 45 minutes. The hosts are looking blunt up front.
An intriguing first half of football comes to an end. Arsenal have enjoyed plenty of possession and Jesus missed the best chance of the half when he headed off-target. Chelsea aren't getting outplayed though. There hasn't been a huge amount of goalmouth action yet, but it's been fun nonetheless.
45' + 1' Martinelli dribbles towards the byline and Arsenal get a corner out of it. It doesn't beat the first man. That's all for now.
45' Saka tries to take on Cucurella again but Jorginho comes across to help his team-mate out. There'll be one added minute before half-time.
43' Zinchenko powers onto a pass down the left and tries to square the ball to Jesus. Chalobah gets to it first.
B. Saka
Yellow Card
42' Saka's booked for chopping down Cucurella seconds after the Spaniard nudges him off the ball. There's an interesting battle going on between that pair.
41' For all their positional dominance, Arsenal haven't had a shot on target yet. Havertz's tame effort has been the only one so far by either team.

39' Arsenal keep Chelsea pinned into their own third for a while. Chalobah gets to an important header before Jesus does.

32' Havertz plays the ball against Saliba to earn Chelsea their first corner of the match down their left. Mount floats it into the middle. Silva can't keep his header down.
31' Jesus can't get past Silva down Arsenal's right. The forward is too eager to make amends and unfairly trips Jorginho.
29' Arsenal create another decent opportunity to open the scoring! Martinelli skips inside from the left and picks out Jesus's run towards the far post. The Brazilian has the goal at his mercy and heads just wide! That was inches away.
P. Aubameyang
Yellow Card
27' Aubameyang slides into White, catching his former team-mate on the top of his foot. Arsenal's former captain is deservedly booked.
25' Mount tempts Gabriel into fouling him down Chelsea's left. Cucurella's whipped free-kick is headed away.

19' Loftus-Cheek loses possession to Jesus on the edge of his own box. The Arsenal man skips past a few challenges and blasts the ball against the covering Silva. That's excellent defending by the 38-year-old.
17' Arsenal's free-kick delivery isn't the best but that doesn't deter them. Martinelli's curled effort from outside the box dips well over the crossbar.
16' Arsenal are focusing plenty of attacks down their right. Cucurella steams into Jesus to bring the forward down and concede a foul.
14' White's had two shots inside 10 minutes so far. That's as many attempts as he managed in his previous 12 league games this season. The Englishman's making his presence felt going forward early on.
12' Chelsea are growing into the game. The Blues fling a few crosses into the Arsenal box. Xhaka shows composure by heading the ball safely to Ramsdale.
10' Chance for Arsenal! Martinelli holds up the ball near the corner flag and waits for Jesus's support. The Brazilian finds White to the right of the box. The right-back smashes his shot into the turf and it bounces wide of the left-hand post.
9' Chelsea create their first half-chance of the game. Havertz gets slipped into the right of the box. The German's cross-cum-shot loops over Ramsdale and out for a throw-in. Potter applauds his team's intent.
7' Arsenal get another free-kick down their left as Havertz trips Xhaka. This is good early pressure from the visitors. It's headed out as far as White. The Englishman winces as he fires way over.
6' Martinelli charges at Azpilicueta and wins Arsenal their first corner of the game. Chelsea clear it and Partey tries again from a throw-in. The hosts see it away.

2' Arsenal go on the attack from the off, earning a throw-in down their left. Partey hurls it into Chelsea's box, and Mount is fouled by White.
1' The hosts Chelsea get this game underway!
Chelsea had Arsenal's number at Stamford Bridge in recent decades, but not anymore. The Gunners have won their last two Premier League away games here, as many as in their previous 16 visits. They haven't won three in a row here since April 1974. Pre-game, the North Londoners feel like favourites.
Arsenal return to full strength after resting players in their 1-0 Europa League win over FC Zurich. Ramsdale, Gabriel, White and Jesus all keep their places from that game.
Potter makes three changes to Chelsea from their midweek victory over Dinamo Zagreb. Cucurella replaces the injured Ben Chilwell. Loftus-Cheek and Chalobah also start. Aubameyang leads the line against his former team.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are firing on all cylinders. The Gunners may have lost top spot in the Premier League to Manchester City for now, but they've won their last four Premier League London derbies. Mikel Arteta's men will be confident of a victory here at Stamford Bridge to continue their outstanding start to the season.
Chelsea enter their biggest game of the season so far in indifferent form and outside the top six. The Blues may have secured their place in the Champions League last 16, but their 4-1 thumping by Brighton and Hove Albion in their last league game shows that they are still finding their feet under Graham Potter's management.
