Tigres vs America: Live stream, starting lineup, kickoff time, & match preview

It's a rematch of the Apertura semifinals Saturday as Tigres welcome Club America to the Estadio Universitario.

Last time, however, America entered on the back of a pair of scoreless matches. This time Las Aguilas are coming off a 5-1 win against Lobos BUAP.

Things didn't go as well for Tigres last weekend, with the club falling to a 2-0 loss to Pumas in Mexico City.

Getting a win in El Volcan is not easy, though, and Thursday's match could have some of the same intensity as the teams' previous meetings when there has been more on the line.

Midfielders Carioca, Duenas, J. Torres, Vasquez, R. Torres, Zelarayan, Aquino, Alvarez, Sosa, Damm
Forwards Valencia, Gignac, Vargas

Luis "Chaka" Rodriguez is returning from suspension for Tigres, but while one starting fullback is returning Jorge Torres Nilo is not yet fit to return to the left-back role. Francisco Meza has filled in during his absence. Jose "Gringo" Torres, typically on the bench, also remains out with injury.

Javier Aquino also will miss out after being injured in Sunday's defeat to Pumas. Jurgen Damm replaced him in that game and likely will do so again Saturday. Ismael Sosa started Sunday but Chilean forward Eduardo Vargas played in the second half and should reclaim his starting role.

Potential starting XI: Guzman; Rodriguez, Ayala, Juninho, Meza; Duenas, Carioca; Damm, Vargas, Valencia; Gignac

Midfielders Rodriguez, Da Silva, Uribe, Dominguez, Corona, Arce, Orrantia, Ibarguen, Paredes, Ibarra, Lainez
Forwards Romero, Menez, Marin, Diaz, Martin, Peralta, Quintero

After a 5-1 win that saw a hat trick from Henry Martin, America manager Miguel Herrera may not see much reason for change with his squad fit and without suspended players. Carlos Vargas took a knock in a midweek friendly against Toronto FC and is questionable. If he were to miss the match, William Da Silva would step into the XI.

GAME PREVIEW

Ricardo Tuca Ferretti TigresHector Vivas

Tigres and America have played many memorable matches in recent history and could add to that list Saturday.

America comes into the Jornada 6 contest flying high, undefeated on the season and coming off a 5-1 thrashing of Lobos BUAP last time out.

Tigres are the reigning champion but already have two losses in the Clausura, falling to Puebla in Round 1 and Pumas last weekend.

Manager Tuca Ferretti said he was disappointed to see his team perform below its usual standard against Pumas but took the loss in stride, comparing it to the Patriots' poor showing in the Super Bowl.

He'll get a boost with one of his two regular fullbacks returning to the starting lineup as Rodriguez returns from suspension. Up top, Vargas came on as a second-half substitute but none of Tigres' star attackers were able to find the back of the net against Pumas.

America looks to have picked up a star attacker in the offseason, though not the man they expected it to be. Martin was unheralded when he arrived from Club Tijuana but netted a hat trick last weekend to bring his total to five goals in the Clausura.

Jeremy Menez, the Frenchman who got far more press than Martin, opened his account against Lobos BUAP and will come up against compatriot Andre-Pierre Gignac, prompting Cancha to run an "Oh La La" headline ahead of the first meeting between the Frenchmen.

America may be feeling good after seeing last week's results, but Tigres are a different team at home.

Their last Liga MX loss in El Volcan came on April 1, 2017. This game seems to catch them at a weak point against a strong opponent, but it's difficult to bet against Ferretti's men when they're in their element.
