Richmond Boakye on target in Jiangsu Suning’s defeat to Southampton

The Ghana international scored a first-half goal but Samuel Gallagher’s effort ensured that the Chinese outfit ended the tie in a loss

Richmond Boakye was on target in Jiangsu Suning’s 3-2 defeat to English Premier League side Southampton in a friendly game on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old attacker notched a first-half effort but was not enough as Samuel Gallagher grabbed the match-winning goal.

Manolo Gabbiadini opened the scoring for the Saints in the 26th minute. However, Cosmin Olaroiu’s men responded swiftly through Lingfeng Zhang.

In the 34th minute, Boakye gave his side the lead for the first time in the encounter but three minutes before the break Nathan Redmond drew the Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre outfit levelled.

And in the 77th minute, Gallagher sealed victory for Mark Hughes’ men.

The attacker joined the Chinese outfit in February 2018 and scored twice in seven appearances before the league went on World Cup break.
