Ozil to Man Utd? Ferdinand would take Arsenal star 'all day'

Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil is “a technician” and would be a perfect addition at Manchester United, says Rio Ferdinand.

Talk of a possible move to Old Trafford for the Germany international has been sparked as he continues to run down his contract at Emirates Stadium.

With there no indication that fresh terms will be agreed in north London, the World Cup winner is expected to either be sold in January or released into the free agent pool next summer.

Whenever he does become available, Ferdinand believes that United should be heading the queue to secure the signature of a proven performer and a man who has previously enjoyed success under Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid.

“Since he signed in the Premier League, he’s had the most assists and the most chances created,” the former Red Devils defender told BT Sport.

“That tells you the standard of the player he is.

“When he was at Real Madrid, I played against him. He was a different player at Real Madrid from what I’ve seen here. The pace, he’s deceptively quick, and if you can get that out of him, with that ability... he’s a technician.

“I’d take him at Man United all day. Free transfer? No doubts.”

While Ozil has displayed his full repertoire of creative talent throughout his time in England, he was unable to help Arsenal past United in his latest outing.

An enthralling encounter at the Emirates saw the Gunners dominate for long periods, only to find David de Gea in imperious form.

Arsene Wenger’s side also made costly mistakes at the back, allowing United to take advantage and sweep to a 3-1 win – even after seeing Paul Pogba shown a straight red card for a studs-up challenge on Hector Bellerin.
