The Colombia international insists he was never contacted personally by Jose Mourinho's side in the summer

Yerry Mina insists that Manchester United were not interested in securing his signature in the summer, instead claiming that his agent was merely trying to drum up interest in his client.

Mina joined Everton from Barcelona in a £27 million ($35m) deal in the summer, reinforcing the Toffees' defence in the process.

United were heavily linked with a bid of their own for the Colombia international - as well as a number of other central defenders - and eventually claimed that they did not sign Mina due to excessive agent fees.

Everton have since dismissed that version of events, and now Mina has fallen in line with his club by claiming that Jose Mourinho's side never contacted him personally.

“I was always focused on Everton. Any talk with Manchester United was just to my agent,” Mina told the Telegraph.

“I have always been aware of English football – Manchester United, Manchester City, Everton, Tottenham.

"But Everton has always been an important club for me, honestly. I watched them when back in the day when [Marouane] Fellaini was playing here.”

Mina has played just one Premier League minute this season, having been ruled out for weeks through injury.

However, he says that manager Marco Silva has already shown his level of faith in him.

“The truth is Professor Marco spoke to me every day, telling me to come to England,” Mina added.

“The big thing was when I was holiday, training and keeping fit after the World Cup, Marco was on the phone. Talking to me, saying to me, ‘come on, come and play here with us’.

"The faith he showed in me was very important. I know now, sitting here, that I have made the right decision. It was the best decision I could have made.”
