Man Utd's must show bad loser mentality, says Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku believes Manchester United will build on Sunday's 2-0 victory over Burnley and show their true character and mentality.

Jose Mourinho's side recovered from defeats to Brighton and Tottenham thanks to Lukaku's first-half double in the Premier League clash at Turf Moor.

Pressure had been building around the Portuguese coach, as reports suggesting he has fallen out with Paul Pogba and is losing the United dressing room continue to circulate.

However, Lukaku believes his side went through a turning point by beating Sean Dyche's team and expects their strengths to shine through in the next few weeks.

“In the first half we showed a lot of quality and in the second half we showed a lot of character and mentality,” the Belgium international told MUTV.

”We have the mentality, but it needs to come out a bit more. That is what the manager wants and that is what we need to do. We needed the win, especially after back-to-back losses when we conceded three goals, which didn't happen last season. We are delighted with the win and we have to move on from this.

“We are Manchester United, this is how we have to play in every game and against Tottenham we did the same. The people will now see a different side of us. Everything that we worked on in the last couple of weeks is coming out now - lots of quick passing, runs in behind, a lot of action and a lot of chances.

“As long as we create chances, we know we will score. We defended well, we tried to press the ball, the fans want to see that and we tried to deliver.”

He added: “We have players who are really bad losers.

“All of us are, we never like to lose. Now that we have won, we will switch off. The manager will analyse our last games and he will prepare us for the next games, as we have a difficult month coming up. We will be ready and we will be prepared."

Lukaku came close to netting a third goal against the Clarets, but was instead shown a yellow card for a dive in the box in the second-half, but was happy to settle for his double in the end.

“I hoped for the hat-trick in the second half and I think I should have got a penalty on the last one," the 25-year-old said. "I don't dive, I'm not a player who dives.

"But, anyway, I am happy with the two goals, I am happy with the win, the way we played and now we have to continue and bring this consistency to the next games.

“It could have been more and [the result] does not tell the story. We should have scored more in the first half and more in the second half, but, you know what, we played better than we did last season and there was a big improvement in our play. The fans want to see that, they want us to dominate, they want to see us creating chances and the goals will come.”
