Man City Team News: Injuries, suspensions and line-up vs Man Utd

Manchester City will be close to full strength when they take on Manchester United on Sunday.

Kevin De Bruyne remains on the sidelines but City's alternative midfield options are all in contention.

Man City injuries

Ilkay Gundogan returned to action after a two-month lay-off against Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday night.

That leaves only De Bruyne, Eliaquim Mangala - who is recovering from a long-term knee injury - and Claudio Bravo - who has a long-term Achilles injury - on the sidelines.

Neither side have any suspensions.

Man City potentia

Pep Guardiola's starting line-up is becoming relatively predictable these days, although with a big game on the horizon there is always the potential for him to come up with a surprise.

Working on the basis that he will stick with 4-3-3, however, we are able to have a good guess.

There are, however, questions regarding the defence, midfield and attack. Aymeric Laporte is sure to start but his partner is still to be determined. John Stones is favourite but neither Vincent Kompany or Nicolas Otamendi can be ruled out.

In midfield, Bernardo Silva has generally replaced De Bruyne but now Gundogan is back in contention he cannot be ruled out.

And in the front three it seems that Leroy Sane and Riyad Mahrez will be in competition for a spot alongside Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling.

Man Utd team news

Romelu Lukaku could return for United having missed the last two matches.

"No new injuries," Jose Mourinho told MUTV. "So, from Juventus, we don't bring important injuries. We have 'touches' but I don't think any player that was available [midweek] will be out. We have a chance - it is Friday morning now - that Lukaku could be back."

Right-backs Antonio Valencia and Diego Dalot are doubtful, however.

  • Two of Man Utd’s three Premier League wins against Man City when they’ve trailed in the match have been away from home and from 0-2 behind – in November 1993 and April 2018.

  • Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling is still yet to score against Manchester United in the Premier League, attempting 19 shots in 12 games without success; among players with at least 50 Premier League goals, only Robbie Keane (22) has played more times against the Red Devils without scoring than Sterling.
