Clement took over first-team duties at Swansea at the start of 2017, replacing Bob Bradley after his sacking and being handed the task of saving the team from relegation from the Premier League with the Swans currently sitting second bottom.

And the Welsh club have officially added the Champions League winner to their background staff, adding he will be on the bench come Saturday's home game against Arsenal.

"Swansea City is pleased to confirm that former French international Claude Makelele has joined the club’s coaching staff," a statement on the club's official website read

"The 43-year-old, who has signed a deal until the end of the season, reunites with head coach Paul Clement, who he worked with during his playing stint at Chelsea and as a coach with Paris Saint-Germain.

"The former Real Madrid, Chelsea and PSG midfielder has been named as an assistant coach... Makelele will get his first taste of the Liberty on Saturday when he’s in the dug-out for the Swans’ Premier League fixture with Arsenal."

Messi needs Neymar to become a leader

Makelele started his career at Nantes, where he won Ligue 1, before moving on to Marseille and Celta Vigo and then joining Real Marid, winning La Liga and the Champions League.

The former defensive midfielder then spent five years at Chelsea, leaving a two-time Premier League champion before seeing out the last three years of his career at PSG. He was part of the Ligue 1 side's background staff and later had a short spell in front of Bastia.
