Kenya to play Botswana in World Cup qualifiers

Kenya ​U​-20 women’s team will play Botswana in the first round of 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifier in July.

The qualification process begins with a preliminary round scheduled for the weekend of 21-23 July 2017. Kenya will kick the fixtures away in Gaborone between July 21, 22 or 23, 2017, with the return leg between August 4/5 or 6 – 2017 in Nairobi.

Winner between Kenya and Botswana after the two-legged fixture will proceed to the first round where they will play Ethiopia. The first round will be played in three weeks. Seeded Ethiopia were given a bye to the next round and will sit out of the preliminary round.

“All that is required is for the team to win only three matches. If we prepare well, I believe our girls can achieve this fete," FKF President Nick Mwendwa told Goal on Friday.

The winner of the first round of matches will then face the winner between Algeria and Ghana. The young Kenyan side will be managed by Ann Oluoch to be assisted by Jackline Akoth. Nineteen (19) teams will battle it for the two slots to represent Africa at the final. The two teams will be known at the weekend of January 26-28, 2018.
