Kaizer Chiefs coach Komphela not undermining Acornbush United

Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela says that ABC Motsepe League side Acornbush United deserve respect after they knocked out the PSL leaders Cape Town City in the previous round.

“We are saying let’s go to Acornbush and respect that they are a competent team and put out a team that will have to win that match for the Chiefs supporters,” Komphela said during a press conference on Thursday.

Amakhosi knocked out NFD side Stellenbosch United in the previous round in emphatic fashion in Cape Town to keep their course for silverware this season alive.

“You can imagine a team like us that needs to win every match, if on any given day you decide to make changes after a positive result and things don’t go your way, the thinking and analogy would be different,” Komphela said.

“We did the same rotation when we went to Stellenbosch- we had six changes and our team still played in a manner that is known,” he continued.

“The most important thing is to create a system that operates irrespective of the parts in it, so we’re trying to create where every player whether ‘Mido’ (George Maluleka) or (Lucky) Baloyi must function in a particular manner.

“Whether we have a (Willard) Katsande or Wiseman Meyiwa, it must operate. If you have Nkosingiphile Ngcobo or ‘Shabba’ (Siphiwe Tshabalala) it must operate,” Komphela added.

“With injuries we are still okay. The medical room is empty so we only have the problem of selection,” Komphela concluded.
