FIFA 19 back at the top of the UK gaming charts in the build-up to Christmas

We’re in the final stretch to Christmas as shoppers around the world flock to the shops in search of the perfect gift.

Video gaming is potentially at an all-time high in terms of popularity and there will certainly be plenty of console games under the Christmas tree this year.

For the first week of December, FIFA 19 is back on top and is dominating the weekly charts in the UK.

On the individual formats chart, FIFA 19 on PS4 has maintained first place, finishing ahead of Red Dead Redemption 2, which takes second and third place with its Xbox One and PS4 copies.

RDR2 was one of if not the most highly anticipated release this year and sold around 600,000 copies in the UK during its opening week.

Despite that, it was only the second fastest-selling game of 2018 in the UK once again as EA Sports and FIFA 19 came out on top.

Meanwhile, FIFA 19’s Xbox One copy has moved up from seventh to sixth this week, keeping the game above Battlefield V, Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and the Xbox One version of Call of Duty Black Ops 4.

This of course means that FIFA 19 sits in first place for the all formats chart this week too, with RDR2 and Black Ops 4 not far behind. This is especially impressive when you consider that FIFA 19 was released September 28, over two months ago.

The popularity of football in the UK is unrivalled and as a result, FIFA has been able to take on all challengers this year.

However, there is still one heavyweight contender yet to enter the ring: Super Smash Brothers Ultimate for Nintendo Switch.

Some of the biggest video game characters of all time feature in the gigantic roster of the fighting game which has gamers in a frenzy of excitement.

Smash releases on Friday, December 7 and could be the one game to dethrone FIFA 19.
