Chelsea have agreed many parts of the deal to sign the former Manchester City striker, but Roma are looking for a replacement before sanctioning the Bosnia-Herzegovina international’s transfer.
The Blues have alternatives to Dzeko, with Tottenham's Fernando Llorente and Arsenal's Olivier Giroud being considered as more ambitious targets for a January move.

And Conte has not been shy in voicing his opinion that he has little input over signings, as it becomes more likely he will not stay beyond the current season.
Dortmund to walk away from Giroud

Borussia Dortmund are set to walk away from any deal for Olivier Giroud, reports the Daily Mail .
BVB wanted the French striker to replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but with talks stalling Giroud is looking at other options.
Dortmund may turn back to Chelsea's Michy Batshuayi if a deal with Arsenal for Aubameyang is reached, though a move for the Blues forward would hinge on them landing another striker as well.
Conte content with Chelsea's plan
Antonio Conte says he has full faith in Chelsea's plan, despite elimination from the EFL Cup semi-finals at the hands of Arsenal.
"It is not right to take only one game to make a decision to understand. There is a programme and a plan," he said.

Chelsea's search for a new striker has led them towards Roma's Edin Dzeko, but not before weighing up moves for the likes of Andy Carroll, Peter Crouch and Ashley Barnes.
