Karim Benzema finished as the Champions League top scorer in 2021-22, hitting 15 goals as Real Madrid won their 14th European crown.

Five of those goals came in the group stage, where Madrid endured a slow start, with the remaining goals being scored at crucial points in the knockout stage.

He struck a hat-trick against Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16, following that up with four goals across two legs against Chelsea - including a hat-trick at Stamford Bridge - in the quarter-final. The France striker scored a further three goals across two games against Manchester City in the semi-final.

Benzema was followed closely by Robert Lewandowski and Sebastien Haller, with those two players being the only others to breach double figures in the competition.

Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Erling Haaland was crowned the Champions League top-scorer in 2020-21 season despite his side being knocked out at the quarter-final stage.

Haaland scored 10 goals, finishing two goals ahead of PSG star Kylian Mbappe and four ahead of the likes of Marcus Rashford, Olivier Giroud and Mohamed Salah who scored six goals each.

It was Lewandowski who finished as the Champions League top scorer the campaign prior in 2019-20, which is also the season that Bayern won the competition.
