Challenge Cup: JDT II, TFC II, plucky ATM book semis slots

The penultimate round of the Challenge Cup group stage took place over Tuesday and Wednesday, with three clubs confirming their places in the semi-final stage.

Group A

Terengganu FC II booked their spot, after edging Sarawak 1-0 at home on Tuesday. The only goal of the match was scored by Shahrin Sapien in the 52nd minute.

The only Super League side in the inaugural edition of the competition, Negeri Sembilan meanwhile snatched the second place from UKM FC, when they beat the university side 2-1 in Seremban. The hosts' goals were scored by Fakrul Aiman Sidid (44') and Faizal Abu Bakar (58'), while the visitors pulled one back through Michael Ijezie's strike one minute from time.

Standings: TFC II (11) Negeri (9) UKM (7) Sarawak (1).

Group B 

Johor Darul Ta'zim II (JDT II), who had already secured qualification earlier, picked up their fourth group stage win, thumping Pulau Pinang 5-1 away. Their goals were scored by Nurhafiz Zamani Misbah (OG 18'); Nicolas Fernandez (p. 40'), Rozaimi Rahman (43'), Amer Saidin (72') and Shahwan Shaharudin (79'), with the hosts' consolation goal scored by Alafi Mahmud in injury time.

Invitational side, FAM Cup's ATM FA produced a stunning performance, booking their place in the knockout phase with a 1-0 win over the other university side in the competition, UiTM FC. Raja Mohd Ridzuwan Effendy scored the winner two minutes from the final whistle in the match.

Standings: JDT II (12) ATM (9) UiTM (4) Pulau Pinang (4).

The final group stage round will be played on next Monday and Tuesday, with Negeri Sembilan and UKM in Group A the only teams left retaining the chance of advancing to the semis.
