Bernd Stange has named 14 LionsXII players in the squad. Eight S.League players are included together with Adam Swandi, who is with FC Metz. 17-year-old Adam is the youngest player in the squad, with three others, namely Shakir Hamzah and Shahfiq Ghani of LionsXII and Courts Young Lions' Sahil Suhaimi being 21 years of age.
With Indra Sahdan still recovering from a broken leg sustained in the friendly match against Hong Kong, Balestier Khalsa's Qiu Li is the oldest player in the squad at 32.
"We have a good mix of players in the squad," said Singapore coach Bernd Stange via a media release.
"The team has benefitted from the recent international friendly matches against China and Hong Kong. The upcoming friendly match against Laos will provide a good test for our young players ahead of the match against Syria, whilst allowing them to showcase their talents.
"The match against Syria will be tough, as they will definitely look to produce good results following their successful campaign at the West Asian Football Federation Championship in December last year. Nevertheless, we will try our best to put up a good showing at our stadium.”
Stange also spoke about giving exposure to the younger players who will be heading for the SEA Games in December, adding: “I have included several young players in the squad as they have put up commendable displays in recent weeks. As we have mentioned previously, it will also provide good exposure for the 13 players who are eligible to represent Singapore at the upcoming SEA Games in December. We hope to have the support of all our fans for both matches.”
Singapore will take on Laos in a friendly match on October 10, before facing Syria in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifying match five days later.|
