    TELL ME MORE

Having seen Crawley thump their promotion rivals Mansfield Town 4-1 at the weekend, Wrexham came into Tuesday's encounter well aware that they would need to be at their very best to get a much-needed result, amid a pitched promotion battle.

And as a result, they absolutely raced out of the traps, earning a 2-0 lead by the 23rd minute, with two goals in two minutes.

First, Ryan Barnett rose in the area to meet a superb cross from Elliot Lee, sending a header into the back of the net.

And then Paul Mullin found the net, as he finished a clever cut-back from Andy Cannon to put Phil Parkinson's men firmly in control.

Lee could have added a third before half-time, but his effort hit the post after more good work from Cannon.

In the second half, Wrexham again scored twice, as Cannon tapped in a rebound, and Mullin capitalised on a defensive mistake to add his second and Wrexham's fourth.

Crawley added a late consolation, as Klaidi Lolos tapped in a cross from close-range, but it did nothing to alter a thumping defeat.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Stockport are currently top of League Two, while Mansfield are third, and both sides won on Tuesday night. Stockport beat Colchester 2-1 away from home, while Mansfield beat Forest Green Rovers 1-0. As a result, Wrexham stay second, three points clear of third but four off top spot. Both Stockport and Mansfield have a game in hand on Wrexham, too.

    THE MVP

Cannon turned in a remarkable performance for Wrexham. He provided an assist and a goal, and was heavily involved in everything good about his side's performance down the wing.

  • THE BIG LOSER

Crawley's promotion hopes. They came into the game on the back of a huge victory but this defeat will be damaging to their morale. They currently sit seventh, occupying the final play-off spot, and their goal difference has taken a major hit. Both Wimbledon and Walsall are just three points back, and the latter have a game in hand, so they will each feel confident of overhauling the Reds.

  • WHAT COMES NEXT?

Wrexham have just three more games to play of the regular season. First, they will face rock-bottom Forest Green Rovers, then they will play Crewe Alexandra, who have play-off ambitions of their own. They then wrap the season up in blockbuster fashion, against current leaders Stockport.
