Towards the end of the summer transfer window, Garnacho finally exited Old Trafford as he signed a seven-year contract with Chelsea after the two Premier League clubs agreed a deal worth a fixed £40 million fee ($54m) with a 10 per cent sell-on clause. • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Emerging through United’s youth academy, Garnacho made his senior debut for the club in a 1-1 draw with Chelsea in the Premier League in April 2022. He then became a regular in the first team, helping the club win the Carabao Cup in 2022-23 and the FA Cup in 2023-24 under Erik ten Hag’s stewardship. However, the Argentina international endured a difficult relationship with current United boss Amorim.
