World Cup winner Enzo became the most expensive player in British football when completing a £107 million ($144m) move to Stamford Bridge in January 2023. He signed an eight-and-a-half-year contract in west London.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Less than 18 months into that deal, the South American is being linked with a switch elsewhere. Enzo has overcome a slow start to his time in England to become a key man for Chelsea - with the captain’s armband often being passed in his direction.
DID YOU KNOW?
At 24 years of age there is still plenty of potential to be unlocked in his game. It has been suggested that Galactico-hungry La Liga giants at Santiago Bernabeu are mulling over an approach for Enzo.

WHAT ENZO FERNANDEZ SAID
Chelsea are understandably reluctant to part with a player they have so much invested in, but Enzo is doing little to quash the transfer gossip. During a discussion with Gaston Edul, he said “Real Madrid, always Real Madrid” when asked which team he plays as on EA Sports FC.
WHAT NEXT?
While Real boast a rich history of getting what they want in the recruitment market, Chelsea are reportedly ready to do all they can to keep Enzo in his current surroundings. He has two games left to take in this season - a crucial Premier League clash with fellow top-five hopefuls Nottingham Forest and a Europa Conference League final date with Real Betis.
