RB Leipzig lose hope of selling Timo Werner after striker rejected MLS & Serie A offers despite being told he has no chance of playing time

According to a report from Sport, Leipzig are close to giving up on their plan to offload Werner before the start of the Bundesliga season. The German striker has reportedly rejected offers from the MLS and Serie A, despite being made aware that he has no future at the club.

Werner, who has a contract until 2026, was not used by head coach Ole Werner in any of the four pre-season friendly matches or the DFB Pokal match against SV Sandhausen. He is also not expected to be in the squad for the Bundesliga opener against Bayern Munich. A move to Leipzig's sister club, the New York Red Bulls, has fallen through after Werner reportedly rejected a contract that included a potential annual salary of over €10 million.

Werner's reluctance to move despite having no clear path to playing time at Leipzig presents a significant problem for the club. The 29-year-old is one of the top earners, and his high wages are a major obstacle to any potential transfer. While a move to another European league remains possible until the transfer window closes on September 1, Werner has already rejected offers from Serie A and has no interest in a move to Saudi Arabia.
