Marc Cucurella told to 'shut his mouth' and not 'take the p*ss' after Erling Haaland got his revenge for Spain star's Euro 2024 song with 'karma' goal in Man City's win over Chelsea

Chelsea defender Cucurella helped Spain to continental glory this summer, becoming a surprising star for La Roja as they captured a European Championship crown. During the celebrations which accompanied that triumph, the 26-year-old left-back serenaded fans with a song that is often sung in his honour.

Said tune pokes fun at Norwegian striker Haaland, who is said to be left trembling by the thought of facing Cucurella. The prolific Manchester City frontman proved that is not the case when shrugging off Cucurella en route to opening the scoring in a 2-0 win for the reigning Premier League champions at Stamford Bridge on the opening weekend of the 2024-25 campaign.

Ex-Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit hopes Cucurella has learned his lesson, with the French World Cup winner telling Android Poker Apps: “Erling Haaland scoring against Marc Cucurella is probably karma. It reminds me of times before big games when I was playing and some players would say a lot in press conferences. In my teams, we always said never to talk big about a player before a game otherwise that could turn into a weapon against us. That talk could motivate the opposition's player to perform even better, like it did to Haaland. At the end of the day, people will say Cucurella got what he deserved and he'll learn from it, but I found it funny. Next time, don't take the p*ss out of your opponent, shut your mouth, win the game and trophies and that's it, stay humble.”

Cucurella was replaced during Chelsea’s defeat against City, leading to him taking more abuse from the travelling support. The Blues are not due to face Haaland and Co again until January 25, 2025, although they could be drawn together in cup competition prior to that.
