The fiery reaction came after Everton were hit with a 10-point deduction for breaching Profitability and Sustainability Rules on Friday. The punishment plunged Sean Dyche's side into the relegation zone, though the Toffees have confirmed that they will be appealing the decision.

After the ruling was announced, Premier League fans took to social media to call for City and Chelsea to face even harsher punishments, if they are found to have broken the rules too. Ideas ranged from relegation to the fifth-tier of English football, to even having the trophies they've won in recent years stripped!

City were alleged to have breached Premier League regulations 115 times between 2009 and 2018 back in February. That investigation is still ongoing. Chelsea are also under the microscope due to apparent payments made by former owner Roman Abramovich that may have broken financial rules.

The Premier League have seemingly set a precedent for any future judgements by punishing Everton so harshly. Should City or Chelsea be found guilty too, they are likely to face even more significant punishment, though judgements on both clubs' cases are not expected any time soon.
