  • Van Dijk sorely disappointed
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Liverpool were forced to settle for a point against United despite a dominant display that saw them have 28 shots compared to the hosts' nine. Luis Diaz gave the Reds the lead early on before Bruno Fernandes capitalised on a Quansah giveaway in spectacular fashion to score from the centre circle. A superb Kobbie Mainoo strike then gave United a shock lead, before a late Mohamed Salah penalty rescued a point for the Reds. Van Dijk, though, was far from satisfied.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Liverpool are fighting tooth and nail for the Premier League title and the draw leaves them level on points with leaders Arsenal and second on goal difference. They are also one point ahead of third-placed Manchester City, and Van Dijk believes the Reds have dropped points.

  • WHAT VAN DIJK SAID

Van Dijk told BBC MOTD: "It feels like a loss, it is our fault again. We had so many chances and we should finish the game off. Unfortunately the individual mistake that happened with the equaliser and we had so much time to put it right, but we were in a rush. Still after being 2-1 down we created so much."

He added: "We should have been 2-0 up at least, but in football unfortunately if these things don't happen you give them the feeling they could come back and it happened."

Asked about whether Quansah will be affected by his error, he replied: "He shouldn't. Mistakes happen in football everyone who has a career in football makes mistakes you can only learn from it."
