Liverpool 2024-25 season ratings - every player ranked: From magnificent Mohamed Salah to disastrous Darwin Nunez

What a season it's been for Liverpool! This time last year, fans were still coming to terms with Jurgen Klopp's final game in charge, unsure of what to expect from the German's successor, Arne Slot. Right now, though, they're basking in the glory of a record-breaking 20th top-flight title and hailing the Dutchman as a genius after the Reds absolutely ran away with this season's Premier League.

Liverpool's surprise success was very much a team triumph, founded upon their collective resilience and sense of togetherness, particularly during tough times for the group when expiring contracts were becoming a major distraction. However, certain individuals deserve recognition for the inspirational roles they played in putting the Merseysiders back on their perch.

Below, GOAL ranks every single Liverpool player to have appeared in at least five league games during the 2024-25 campaign...

  • Darwin Nunez Liverpool 2025Getty Images

    22Darwin Nunez - 2/10

There's just no way that Darwin Nunez will still at Liverpool next season, after an absolutely calamitous campaign. The Uruguayan's dramatic late double at Brentford was one of the key moments in the title win, but Nunez scored just five Premier League goals in total - an abysmal return for a No.9 bought for £64 million ($86m).

It was recently reported that Slot stopped starting Nunez so that Liverpool could avoid paying any more money for the forward in bonuses and that could well be true. But it might also have been down to the fact that Nunez's specialises in missing open goals.

  • Federico Chiesa LiverpoolGetty Images

    21Federico Chiesa - 3/10

Slot says Federico Chiesa "definitely" has a future at Liverpool, but we have our doubts. The injury-prone Italian obviously arrived at Liverpool in a poor physical state after being frozen out of Juventus' pre-season plans, but even when he was available for selection, Slot rarely used Chiesa.

Despite coming off the bench to score in the Carabao Cup final, the versatile winger, who has plenty of suitors in Serie A, had to wait until the penultimate weekend of the season for his first Premier League start.

    20Jarell Quansah - 4/10

Jarell Quansah began the season as Slot's preferred partner for Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the Liverpool defence. However, he was hauled off at half-time during the Reds' opener at Ipswich Town and has been a bit-part player ever since.

Of course, Quansah was so nearly a surprise hero in the Champions League last-16 loss to Paris Saint-Germain, hitting the post with a fine header that could have sent the Reds through to the quarter-finals, but it was ultimately a frustrating campaign for Quansah, who ended up seeing fewer minutes in the Premier League than Joe Gomez, who was out injured for five months.

  • Brighton & Hove Albion v Liverpool - Carabao Cup Fourth RoundGetty Images Sport

    19Joe Gomez - 4/10

It was lovely to see Gomez make the bench for Sunday's game against Crystal Palace after being sidelined for four months with an injury sustained in the FA Cup loss at Plymouth Argyle.

Whether he will still be at the club next season, though, is anyone's guess. Gomez's versatility makes him invaluable, and before his injury he was looking like a more reliable option at centre-back than either Ibrahima Konate and Jarell Quansah, but he may well leave this summer to secure more regular game time elsewhere.

  • wataru-endo(C)Getty Images

    18Wataru Endo - 6/10

Wataru Endo emerged as a key player during Klopp's final season, so much so, in fact, that the German even called for the ball-winning "machine" to be given a new contract after the Carabao Cup win over Chelsea.

Endo's future at the club is now unclear, though. He served as a very useful closer for Slot, coming on as a substitute to see out games that were still in the balance, but the Japan international clearly doesn't possess all of the attributes Slot wants in a No.6, so it remains to be seen if he'll stay past the summer having only started once in the Premier League.

  • Liverpool v Newcastle United - Carabao Cup FinalGetty Images Sport

    17Caoimhin Kelleher - 6/10

Caoimhin Kelleher was understandably fuming after learning Liverpool had effectively lined up Giorgi Mamardashvili to take over in goal from Alisson Becker after completing a deal to sign the Valencia shot-stopper last summer.

So, while Liverpool blocked the Irishman from leaving last summer, they're unlikely to stand his way this time around, especially as they could get good money for a goalkeeper that has attracted attention from a lot of mid-level Premier League clubs by keeping nine clean sheets in 20 appearances this season.

  • Liverpool FC v Newcastle United FC - Premier LeagueGetty Images Sport

    16Kostas Tsimikas - 6/10

With Liverpool reportedly in the market for a new left-back, it seems highly likely that Kostas Tsimikas will move on this summer. If he does depart, he'll do so with the best wishes of Reds fans.

Tsimikas put Andy Robertson under more pressure than at any previous point during his time on Merseyside, and while he only started nine times in the Premier League, he was part of a memorable double-substitution in the crucial 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest in January that saw the Greek cross for Diogo Jota to equalise just seconds after they'd both come off the bench.

  • Liverpool FC v LOSC Lille - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD7Getty Images Sport

    15Harvey Elliott - 6/10

During Liverpool's pre-season preparations, Harvey Elliott actually looked like the player most suited to the No.10 role in Slot's starting line-up. However, even before the broken foot that ruled him out for a couple of months, he was struggling to get game time.

Elliott still managed to show how impactful he can be with his late winner at Parc des Princes, but he's undeniably got a big decision to make this summer after making just two Premier League starts all season (and even both of those arrived after the title had been won).

  • Everton FC v Liverpool FC - Premier LeagueGetty Images Sport

    14Conor Bradley - 6/10

Despite once again serving as Trent Alexander-Arnold's understudy, Conor Bradley made the most of his opportunities to shine when centre stage, most notably with a barnstorming display in the Champions League win over Real Madrid. Bradley may not have Alexander-Arnold's range of passing, but he is a better defender, while he also carries an attacking threat (four assists this season).

However, Liverpool's imminent acquisition of Jeremie Frimpong makes sense, as there are serious doubts over Bradley's ability to stay fit for a sustained period of time, after two more spells on the sidelines this season.

  • Andy Robertson Liverpool 2025Getty Images

    13Andy Robertson - 6/10

Andy Robertson continues to play with the same level of aggression as always but, unfortunately, he's no longer the force of nature he once was on Liverpool's left flank.

He was directly involved in just one Premier League goal all season long, while he also looked increasingly vulnerable defensively, as most shockingly illustrated by his two horror-shows against Fulham. Unsurprisingly, speculation is rife that Liverpool will sign a new left-back this summer.

  • FBL-ENG-PR-LIVERPOOL-FULHAMAFP

    12Diogo Jota - 6/10

Jota weighed in with some crucial goals during the 2024-25 campaign, most notably against Fulham, Nottingham Forest and Everton. However, this was a bitterly frustrating season for the Portuguese forward, who once again struggled with injuries and looked a shadow of his former self during the final few weeks.

As a result, speculation is rife that Jota could be sold during the summer with Slot seeking a No.9 he can rely on to stay fit - and score more goals.

  • FBL-ENG-PR-MAN CITY-LIVERPOOLAFP

    11Curtis Jones - 7/10

After missing the start of the season with yet another minor muscular problem, Curtis Jones quickly forced his way into Slot's starting line-up and was arguably playing the best football of his Liverpool career to date by the turn of the year.

Jones still ended up featuring 45 times in all competitions, as well as racking up three goals and six assists, but he cut a slightly frustrated figure at certain times during the second half of the campaign as he struggled for starts.

  • Liverpool FC v Crystal Palace FC - Premier LeagueGetty Images Sport

    10Trent Alexander-Arnold - 7/10

Trent Alexander-Arnold's decision to leave Liverpool on a free transfer upset plenty of people, and the Real Madrid-bound right-back was even booed in his first appearance at Anfield after the news of his departure broke. However, he still received a warm reception on the final day of the season due to the part he played in the title triumph, with Alexander-Arnold directly involved in nine goals.

It was a relatively small haul for the 26-year-old, but did include a dramatic late winner at Leicester that sparked wild scenes of celebration in the away end at the King Power Stadium.

  • Ibrahima KonateGetty Images Sport

    9Ibrahima Konate - 8/10

Doubts persist over Konate's true quality, particularly as there's always the feeling that he's going to drop an absolute clanger at any moment, with the PSG defeat being a case in point. Consequently, most Liverpool fans wouldn't be too upset to see the Frenchman sold this summer - particularly as he has just one year left on his contract.

Still, Konate was a key member of a title-winning team - only four Reds played more minutes - and his centre-back partnership with Van Dijk proved the most imposing and durable in the Premier League.

  • Liverpool FC v Newcastle United FC - Premier LeagueGetty Images Sport

    8Dominik Szoboszlai - 8/10

Jamie Carragher ranks among those demanding more of an end product from Dominik Szoboszlai, and it's something that Slot has occasionally touched on too. However, the Hungarian did chip in with eight goals and eight assists in all competitions, while his relentless running and intensive pressing proved vital to many a Liverpool victory.

So, while there's still room for improvement, it's worth remembering that Szoboszlai, who was immense in the massive win at Manchester City in February, is still only 24.

  • Liverpool FC v Tottenham Hotspur FC - Premier LeagueGetty Images Sport

    7Alisson Becker - 8/10

Alisson's recurring injury issues are becoming a cause for concern - he missed eight games with muscular problems this season - but there's no questioning the Brazilian's ability.

As he proved with his heroics against Paris Saint-Germain at Parc des Princes, he remains the best goalkeeper in the world, and Mamardashvili is going to have some job trying to usurp Alisson as Liverpool's No.1 next season.

  • Luis Diaz LiverpoolGetty

    6Luis Diaz - 8/10

Liverpool wanted more goals from Luis Diaz this season - and they got them, with the Colombian netting a career-high 17 times in all competitions.

Playing in a more central role obviously helped, with Slot using Diaz as a false nine on several occasions, but there remains some doubt over his long-term future at Anfield, given Liverpool are expected to sign a striker this summer and Cody Gakpo now looks like a more effective option on the left. Regardless, Diaz played a pivotal part in the title win.

  • FBL-ENG-PR-LIVERPOOL-IPSWICHAFP

    5Cody Gakpo - 8/10

Slot's decision to primarily deploy the versatile Gakpo on the left wing was fully vindicated, with the Dutchman finishing the season as Liverpool's second-top scorer with 18 goals in all competitions while at the same time contributing five assists.

The big shame was that he got injured in February while playing at the peak of his powers and was, therefore, only able to play 19 minutes of the last-16 loss to Paris Saint-Germain. Still, Gakpo finished with a flourish, and the feeling at Anfield is that there is even more to come from the 26-year-old.

  • Liverpool FC v Paris Saint-Germain - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 Round of 16 Second LegGetty Images Sport

    4Alexis Mac Allister - 9/10

Slot recently pointed out that there aren't many players in world football like Alexis Mac Allister - and he's spot on. The Argentine is as tenacious as he is technically gifted, meaning he's capable of not only playing anywhere in midfield - but doing so brilliantly.

Mac Allister was directly involved in 13 goals in all competitions this season, while he also won more tackles than any other Liverpool player - which rather sums up the importance of an incredibly intelligent footballer who seems to perform even better in the games that matter most.

  • Ryan Gravenberch Liverpool 2025Getty Images

    3Ryan Gravenberch - 9/10

Liverpool were bitterly frustrated after failing to sign a world-class defensive midfielder last summer but, as it transpired, they already had one within their ranks.

Slot's conversion of Ryan Gravenberch into a No.6 proved a masterstroke, with the Dutchman proving integral to the Reds play with his tackles, interceptions, precise passing, reading of the play and line-breaking dribbles out of defence. It, thus, came as no surprise to see him earn a nomination for the Premier League's Player of the Season while winning the Young Player award.

  • FBL-ENG-LCUP-LIVERPOOL-NEWCASTLEAFP

    2Virgil van Dijk - 9/10

Why did it take Liverpool so long to reward Van Dijk with a new contract? The Reds simply wouldn't have won the title without their inspirational skipper, who has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that he's still the best centre-back in the world at 33 years age.

Van Dijk was once again outstanding in the air, rarely beaten or caught out of position, and his tremendous range of passing helped Liverpool quickly turn defence into attack in a split-second.

  • Mohamed Salah Liverpool 2025Getty Images

    1Mohamed Salah - 9/10

Liverpool's best player - and the best player in the Premier League too. Mohamed Salah featured in more games than any other Red and was directly involved in 57 goals in all competitions, 34 of which he scored himself.

There were probably only three disappointing displays (against PSG in the Champions League, and Newcastle in the Carabao Cup), with Salah carrying Liverpool's attack for the majority of a title-winning campaign. Unsurprisingly, the Egyptian King's record-breaking form also resulted in Fenway Sports Group (FSG) belatedly handing him a two-year contract extension that gives Salah the chance to make even more history at Anfield.
