Granit Xhaka branded a 'bit of a b****' after 'losing his head' and being sent off during bad-tempered Nations League clash

During Denmark's 2-0 win over Switzerland on Thursday night, Xhaka was furious Patrick Dorgu's opener was allowed to stand - as he believed the ball should have been put out of play for a perceived foul on Breel Embolo. The former Arsenal ace was booked for his vociferous protests, where he clashed with several Danish players, and then five minutes later he received a second yellow card for a late challenge on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. After the match, Fulham defender Joachim Andersen hit out at the 32-year-old's antics.

He said, via Tipsbladet: "He [Xhaka] is a top footballer, but he is also a bit of a b***h. We know Granit, and he can go to it once in a while and get a little angry on the pitch. That’s the way it is. He is a player I have a lot of respect for, and sometimes you can lose your head. I think he has been good at keeping calm for many years, but today he lost his head a little."

Hojbjerg secured all three points for Denmark with a late goal to put them top of their Nations League group. Incidentally, Andersen added on Xhaka: "There is no reason to kick the ball out. The rules are that you kick the ball out if it’s a head injury, and it wasn’t. I’m 100 percent sure that they wouldn’t have kicked the ball out either, if it was the other way around."

Switzerland return to Nations League action, without the suspended Xhaka, on Sunday against Euro 2024 champions Spain. Denmark, on the other hand, lock horns with Serbia on the same day.
