'It's absurd!' - Ederson rages at 'unacceptable' Rodri Player of the Season snub as he insists Man City enforcer should be fighting Phil Foden for top Premier League prize

The Premier League revealed the names of the eight nominees for this season's Player of the Season Award last week, which features two Manchester City stars: Erling Haaland and Phil Foden. The other players to feature in the list are Martin Odegaard, Alexander Isak, Cole Palmer, Declan Rice, Virgil van Dijk and Ollie Watkins.

Man City goalkeeper Ederson was happy to see two of his team-mates being nominated for the prestigious award, however, he questioned the absence of Rodri from the shortlist and deemed the Spaniard's snub as 'unacceptable'. Pep Guardiola's side, who are in contention to win their fourth consecutive Premier League title, lost just three matches in the current campaign against Arsenal, Wolves and Aston Villa, with all three defeats coming while Rodri was suspended.

Speaking to ESPN Brasil, the custodian said, "There are good players, but I see Rodri as a great candidate who isn't on the list. I don't understand why he's not on the list either. Honestly, that's unacceptable. If you look at his year, his campaign, the last few seasons he's been playing and see that he's not on the list, it's absurd. I don't know what criteria they use to nominate players, but there are also great players competing.

"But I see Rodri as a great candidate to win and unfortunately, he's not on the list. So I think I'll be rooting for Phil to win because Phil is also having a great season, he's helped us a lot. This season he's scored more goals, provided more assists, been more consistent and more important to the team too."

Guardiola's men will be next seen in action on Tuesday night as they take on Tottenham Hotspur in a crucial Premier League clash away from home.
