Cristiano Ronaldo set to unite with Jorge Jesus as Al-Nassr open up talks with Portuguese coach after departing Saudi rivals Al-Hilal

Al-Nassr have started their search for a new manager after parting ways with Stefano Pioli. According to Foot Mercato, the Saudi side have opened formal talks with Portuguese coach Jesus, who is available after leaving Al-Hilal this season. Al Nassr's superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, who reportedly has agreed to extend his contract with the club, could likely play an active role in deciding the next head coach.

oined Al-Nassr in September 2024 with high expectations after a decorated spell in Europe, where he led AC Milan to Serie A title and won league's coach of the year in 2022. But despite a promising start, the season ended in disappointment, with the club finishing third in the Saudi Pro League and falling short in both the King’s Cup and the AFC Champions League.

Meanwhile, Jesus left Al-Hilal in May after guiding them to multiple domestic titles, including the Saudi Pro League, King’s Cup, and Super Cup. While the two Portuguese compatriots have never worked together, Jesus has previously sung high praise for the 40-year-old striker, applauding his work ethic and professionalism.

During his first season at Al Hilal, Jorge Jesus set a world record for the most consecutive wins in top-flight football, with 34 wins. Their winning run came to an end with a 4-2 loss to Al Ain in the Asian Champions League semi-finals in April.

Bringing Jesus on board could be a good move for Al-Nassr, who are desperate to end their silverware drought despite boasting a star-studded squad including Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, Aymeric Laporte, and others. Hiring the ex-Al-Hilal boss would also add fresh fire to an already fierce domestic rivalry between the two clubs. The club is expected to finalise their next managerial appointment in the coming weeks.
