Despite signing a new contract 10 months ago, McCabe has been identifed as a summer transfer target for Lyon. The Athletic writes that the eight-time Champions League winners have enquired to express interest in the Republic of Ireland star, only to be told she isn't available. But interest persists and the French giants are tipped to return with an approach if Arsenal show any inclination to sell.
Getty ImagesMcCabe is described as being "high on the agenda" of new Lyon coach Joe Montemurro, who previously worked with her between 2017 and 2021 in his former role as Arsenal boss. The Australian coach has been handed the task of replacing Sonia Bompastor at Lyon and taking the club back to the pinnacle of Europe after seeing their crown taken by Barcelona in recent times.
McCabe has already been assigned a new Arsenal shirt number for the 2024-25 season, inheriting 11 following Vivianne Miedema's departure and subsequent move to Manchester City. That only underlines their desire to keep her after already losing one big name this summer - Miedema left after she wasn't offered a new contract.
GettyDespite successive Conti Cup triumphs, Arsenal have finished a disappointing third in the last two WSL seasons. Even with Chelsea going through a managerial change, the Blues aren't expected to give up their title without a fight, while Manchester City are even stronger with the addition of Miedema. It could make 2024-25 particularly tough for the Gunners, whose squad will soon be in need of a refresh to bring down the average age.
