Bayern Munich fail to register a shot in first half in tough start against Bayer Leverkusen

Vincent Kompany's side were toothless in the opening 45 minutes at the BayArena. It is the first time since records began in the 1990s that Bayern have failed to let fly in a full half of a Bundesliga match. Bayern eventually had a shot in the 74th minute through Harry Kane, but it was blocked.

Second-place Leverkusen sat eight points behind Bayern heading into the contest, with a win likely to be necessary to have a chance of defending their title this season.

Striker Kane failed to have a single shot on target before the break and received a whack to the face that kept him down for several minutes when heading over from an offside position shortly before half-time.

Bayern have not just got reclaiming the Bundesliga crown on their minds, with Tuesday's Champions League play-off second leg coming against Celtic. Kompany's side lead the tie 2-1 after victory at Celtic Park on Wednesday.
