Barcelona cruised through the first half, collapsed in the second, but salvaged a last-gasp victory against Real Betis to just about stay in the Liga title race. A Ferran Torres double — reliant on expert set-up play from Lamine Yamal — was nullified by a duo of quickfire goals from Isco. But the Blaugrana had the final word, as substitute Joao Felix bagged a 90th-minute winner before Torres rounded out his hat-trick to seal a 4-2 win.

Barca exerted pressure from the outset and were good value for their opener as a fortunate deflection fell to the feet of Pedri, who squared to Torres for an easy finish. Yamal nearly made it two after 40 minutes, but smashed a shot off the post following a delightful run down the wing.

Torres did add his and Barca's second shortly after the break, with Yamal playing a crucial role. The teenage winger started the play, before seeing his effort fall at the feet of Torres off the bar, who couldn't miss from close-range.

Betis got back on terms, though, with former Real Madrid star Isco smashing a volley into the roof of the net from 10 yards before he added a second shortly after, steering the ball over a sprawling Inaki Pena to equalise.

Both sides had their chances to win it late on, but Barca were more clinical. Felix poked an effort into the bottom corner with the outside of his foot to give his team the lead as the clock ticked past 90 before Torres added a fourth in stoppage-time from a wonderful Yamal assist to complete his hat-trick.

GOAL rates Barcelona's players from Benito Villamarin...

  • Alejandro Balde Barcelona 2023-24Getty Images

    Goalkeeper & Defence

    Inaki Pena (6/10):

Perhaps could have done better for the first goal, but was helpless for the second.

    Jules Kounde (6/10):

Made an important clearance off the line at 2-0. Betis didn't have much joy down his side.

    Ronald Araujo (6/10):

Solid without being world-class, but made a mess of things in the run-up to Isco's first goal.

    Pau Cubarsi (6/10):

A solid first start in La Liga from the 16-year-old. Looked tired as the game wore on. Risky to give him minutes, despite injury shortages.

    Alejandro Balde (5/10):

Like most of the Blaugrana, impressive in the first half, but lacking in the second. Getting there, but isn't quite reaching the heights of last season.

  • Frenkie de Jong Barcelona 2023-24Getty Images

    Midfield

    Frenkie de Jong (6/10):

Covered ground effectively. Had Isco tied down in the first half, but made a few mistakes after the break and played Isco onside for his second goal. As reliable as ever when he had the ball, and ended up playing centre-back.. A mixed performance.

    Pedri (5/10):

Provided a nice assist for Torres' opening goal. More or less anonymous, otherwise. Still not quite fit.

    Ilkay Gundogan (6/10):

Did the dirty work to keep his side in control during the first half, but was overwhelmed in the second — and his team suffered as a result.

  • Ferran Torres Lamine Yamal Barcelona 2023-24Getty Images

    Attack

    Lamine Yamal (9/10):

Went on a few outrageous marauding runs. Cracked one off the post. Assisted Torres' third, and was important in the three other goals. He was a joy to watch, at times.

    Robert Lewandowski (4/10):

Immobile through the middle for long stretches. Deservedly removed after an hour.

    Ferran Torres (9/10):

Took his first goal well, even if it wasn't a particularly difficult finish. Ditto for the second. Ran in circles in an attempt to bag a third, and finally got it — deservedly so. One of his best showings in a Barca shirt.

  • Subs & Manager

    Vitor Roque (6/10):

Given 30 minutes to impress, to mixed results. He put a half-chance wide, and despite his running, never quite got involved enough.

    Fermin Lopez (5/10):

Ran a lot without offering much on the ball. Did win it back in the build-up to Felix's goal, however.

    Joao Felix (7/10):

Bagged the winner off the bench. Is he now the ultimate super-sub?

    Xavi (7/10):

Another mixed one for the Barca boss. His side seemed to be cruising after 50 minutes, but they fell apart after that, and lost control. He deserves credit for his subs to win it, though.
