Arsenal's top 10 home kits of all time - ranked

After having to endure six years of Puma, adidas arguably had the easiest job of all time to release a kit that was met with universal acclaim by the Arsenal fan base. But it has to be said they hit it out of the park with the shirts they released for their long-awaited return to working with the Gunners.

The away kit, which was a bit of a homage to the classic buried banana, was a belter, but this home design was also a big success.

The kit that saw the changeover between JVC and Sega Dreamcast as the club’s primary sponsors, this was a great design, one that makes you think of Nicolas Anelka at his thrilling best as he made his mark on European football.

It would probably rank even higher, had it not been the shirt worn in the year that saw Arsenal threw away the league title and suffered FA Cup semi-final heartache to Manchester United at Villa Park.

Arsenal should really have celebrated the league and cup double wearing this kit in 1999, but instead they ended the season empty-handed.

A shirt that immediately makes you think of Ian Wright. After leaving adidas, this was Nike’s first Arsenal kit and it was a big success, as was the blue away design that went with it.

It was also the first kit that Dennis Bergkamp ever wore for Arsenal, which immediately gives it a boost in the popularity stakes.

This could, and probably should, rank far higher in the list. It was a beautiful shirt. The classic design, the redcurrant colour and the gold logo. It’s gone down as a classic.

But the issue is it’s not the red that we all associate with Arsenal, despite the historical links. That’s the only thing that stops it being higher up in these rankings.

A shirt that immediately makes you think of Freddie Ljungberg and his red hair charging through from deep to get on the end of a Bergkamp through ball.

It’s a classic kit, one that Arsenal wore as they claimed their second league and cup double under Arsene Wenger. A beauty. 

A kit so nice that it was relaunched for the 2022-23 season.

This was adidas’ swansong before Arsenal made the move to Nike in the 90s. A kit synonymous with the cup double in 1993 and the Cup Winners Cup triumph over Parma a year later.

The purists may not have liked the fact that the sleeves weren’t just plain white, but on this occasion we’ll let adidas off. Having the crest in the centre was also a step away from tradition, but it looked really good.

The shirt Arsenal wore when they won the league at White Hart Lane for the first time in 1971. An absolute classic, a design that is still sold and worn today by fans on a weekly basis.

You immediately think of players like Frank Mclintock, Charlie George and John Radford when you see this kit. Legends, in the classic red and white.

Arsenal may not have been wearing this kit when they won the first division title at Anfield in such dramatic fashion in 1989, but it still conjures up great memories of that historic season.

When you see it you think of David Rocastle, Michael Thomas, Alan Smith and Tony Adams. That young team under George Graham that took Arsenal back to the top of English football after an 18-year wait.

A classic home shirt. One that will always be fondly remembered.

A classic. The kit worn by the Invincibles and the one they were wearing when they won the title at White Hart Lane.

It’s a kit that brings back so many incredible memories. From Thierry Henry’s masterclass at San Siro to Patrick Vieria striding through the Chelsea defence to score at Stamford Bridge.

An absolute beauty. It might be quite plain, but that just adds to its class. The collar was great, as was the design. And the fact that the sponsor was JVC makes it even better.

This was the kit Arsenal wore when Wenger won his first title. It was the kit they were wearing when Ian Wright broke Cliff Bastin’s goalscoring record, the one they were wearing when Tony Adams smashed home that half volley against Everton and when Marc Overmars scored against Newcastle at a sun-drenched Wembley in 1998.

A masterpiece.
