Yakubu happy with debut goals for Kotoko

Asante Kotoko striker Yakubu Mohammed is delighted to have found the back of the net twice after making his debut in a 2-1 victory over Liberty Professionals on Sunday.

The 26-year-old joined the Kumasi-based club from Ashanti Gold as a free agent and scored on 56th minute from the spot to cancel out Benjamin Eshun's opener for the visitors. He later made it 2-1 after connecting a flick from Abeiku Ainooson.

''It's a good feeling to have scored two goals in my first premier league game for Asante Kotoko,'' Yakubu said.

“We thank the supporters for their continuous support even when we were down by one goal in the first half, they kept chanting and it helped us to come from behind.

“We hope it’s going to continue like we did against Liberty Professionals and I'll also try my best to score more goals for the club in the league and the FA Cup. I don't have any ambitions to win the topscorer award but it is my target to help my teammates so that we win the title.

"Since 2014, we have failed in our quest to lay our hands on the trophy but I think we have good squad to break that jinx," he added.

Kotoko will make a trip to Berekum to lock horns with Berekum Chelsea next weekend.

Goal understands that the weekend games may not come on as planned. Techiman City owner Micky Charles has served Ghana Football Association an injunction letter on Monday to halt all activities, until their case against Chelsea is heard.

Techiman City and Ghana FA will meet in court on Tuesday.
