Who will inherit James Rodriguez's number 10 at Real Madrid?

Some huge names have donned the shirt in years gone by, and there are more than a few candidates to add their names to that prestigious list...

Finally! We can stop speculating over James Rodriguez's future!

It was announced on Tuesday that the Colombian has signed a two-year loan deal (with an option to buy) with German champions Bayern Munich, putting an end to the near constant conjecture as to whether he would stay in Madrid, move to Man Utd, move to PSG, move to Juventus... it had been a recurring theme pretty much since he joined the Spanish champions back in 2014.

But now here we are, beset with a whole new set of queries – not least where James will fit into Bayern's system. Does he replace Thiago in the hole? Will he play in a midfield three? Ancelotti does love a 4-3-3.

Lacazette must end Arsenal curse

But perhaps a more pertinent question, at least for Real Madrid fans, is who will take the Colombian's squad number at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Alfredo Di Stefano, Ferenc Puskas, Michael Laudrup, Clarence Seedorf, Luis Figo, Wesley Sneijder and Mesut Ozil are just a few of the high-profile names who have donned the white club's number 10 – but who will get it next?
