Carli Lloyd has become the sixth U.S. national team star to score 100 international goals, hitting the milestone in a 6-2 win over Mexico on Sunday.

The 35-year-old scored in the 34th minute at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, giving the U.S. a 3-2 lead in her 252nd cap.

That strike saw Lloyd follow in the footsteps of fellow U.S. goal-scoring centurions Tiffeny Milbrett, Michelle Akers, Kristine Lilly, Mia Hamm and Abby Wambach. Wambach holds the international record with 184 goals.

It was the second goal in as many games for Lloyd, who in 2018 has already matched her output from all of 2017, when she netted just twice during an injury-plagued year.

Mallory Pugh opened the scoring for the U.S., slotting home in the third minute after connecting with a Megan Rapinoe setup.

Some shaky goalkeeping from Jane Campbell briefly put the U.S. in a hole, with Monica Ocampo and Kiana Palacios scoring twice off corner kicks in an eight-minute span to give Mexico a surprising lead.

But that advantage lasted just one minute, as Lindsey Horan nodded home a Rapinoe corner to draw the U.S. level.

That set the stage for Lloyd's milestone tally, as the two-time FIFA world player of the year converted from point-blank range following a frantic sequence in the box.

Alex Morgan gave the U.S. a 4-2 lead a minute before halftime, prodding home a Rapinoe cross from the left flank.

And the U.S. cruised in the second half, with Rapinoe scoring from distance and Morgan adding her second goal of the day to provide the final margin.
