The Liga giants will be waiting nervously to find out the severity of their defender's muscle complaint after he was withdrawn at the break

Real Madrid could be facing an injury blow at the back after Raphael Varane was withdrawn at half-time against Girona

The French centre-back looked visibly uncomfortable towards the end of the first 45 minutes, and was seen grimacing after a challenge on Pere Pons.

And after going down the tunnel at the break with Madrid 1-0 up, Varane did not make an appearance for the restart.

Nacho was drafted in to replace Varane, who was making his 200th appearance for the club, with reports of an adductor injury in his right leg, although the severity of the problem is yet to be disclosed.

Girona took full advantage of the disruption, hitting back from Cristhian Stuani and Portu to take a 2-1 lead in the first 15 minutes of the second half.
