USWNT draws Mexico in World Cup qualifying group

The U.S. women's national team has drawn Mexico, Panama and Trinidad & Tobago in Group A of next month's Concacaf Women’s Championship.

The eight-team tournament will serve as qualifying for the 2019 Women's World Cup, which will be held in France.

The top two finishers in Group A and Group B will advance to the semi-final round. Semi-final winners will qualify for the World Cup, with the winner of the third-place game also automatically qualifying.

The fourth-place finisher will take on Argentina in a play-off in November, with the winner of that play-off also reaching the World Cup.

The U.S. will face Mexico on October 4, then Panama on October 7 and Trinidad & Tobago on October 10. All three of those matches will be held in Cary, N.C.

Group B will be comprised of Canada, Jamaica, Costa Rica and Cuba.

The semifinals, third-place match and final will take place at Toyota Stadium, in Frisco, Texas.
