An early goal by Sony Sugar destabilized Mathare United’s game plan, admitted coach Francis Kimanzi.
Tobias Otieno’s scored a brace in the first half to help Sony pay back the first leg lose against Kimanzi side when the Millers stretched the ‘Slum Boys’ winless run to seven games.
Kimanzi said that his game plan was scattered by Otieno’s third-minute opener further admitting that it was difficult to come back after he added his second at the half-hour mark.
“The early goal destabilized us. You tend to think that you have a lot of time but that is not the case. It is always difficult for the players when you have to chase the game that early.
“We had to change a lot and I think they now realize it is important to have a good start,” Kimanzi told the club website.
The loss left the team in sixth place with 35 points, a performance that now threatens the team’s top-four finish.
“We did not create enough chances today and that is something that we need to work on.
"The mental aspect is good because they played with more purpose in the second half and that is something we can build on.”
Kimanzi will even have a tougher outing next weekend when they take on AFC Leopards away on Sunday.
Mathare have picked a paltry five points from a possible 21 in the last seven games.
