Nigeria won't beat us this time around, says Zambia's Mary Mwakapila

Zambia striker Mary Mwakapila is not troubled by the pedigree of defending champions Nigeria after they hammered two-time Equatorial Guinea 5-0 to launch their World Cup quest.

Following a shock opening victory over the Nzalang Nacional at the Cape Coast Stadium, Mwakapila was on target as the Shepolopolo made a light walk over the central Africans.

Ahead of Wednesday's showdown with eight-time winners the striker insists they will not bow to the west Africans this time around.

"Nigeria is just a name even though they are defending champions," Mwakapila told media.

"They have good players like us and play the same football, we will beat them on [Wednesday].

"I’m very happy to meet Nigeria because the last time we met in 2014, Nigeria defeated us six nil and this made me come up that Nigeria won’t beat us this time around."

For Nigeria coach Thomas Dennerby, he is positive about his side's chances of bouncing back with a victory against the southern Africans.

"Of course even though I have been in the business for long. I have to go on and show my players the positive side of me every day so that it would not depress them," he said.

"So, I am still positive because we have not changed our aim of coming to the competition which is to qualify for the Women's World Cup."
