Union Berlin's story: From Bundesliga 2 to playing Real Madrid in the Champions League

With the addition of USA internationals Sergino Dest, Malik Tillman and Ricardo Pepi on top of the form of Luuk De Jong and Johan Bakayoko, PSV Eindhoven could be the team to cause quite a stir in the group stage this year. They defeated Scottish side Rangers 5-1 in the play-offs to qualify for the group stage in what was an utterly dominant showing.Fellow Dutch side Feyenoord could prove to be a tough contender with the form of striker Santiago Jimenez, but the other team I am looking at is Turkish side Galatasaray in Group A.Known as 'The Conqueror of Europe' Galatasaray could prove to be a tough foe for both Man Utd and Bayern Munich. they added 2021 UCL winner Hakim Ziyech to their squad over the summer and it has only made them better. For sure, a team to watch.

This year's competition will feature two newcomers in Belgian side Royal Antwerp FC and Bundesliga side Union Berlin.Antwerp qualified via UCL play-offs while Union Berlin earned a spot after finishing in a UCL spot in the Bundesliga table in 2022/23.Congrats to them both!

The 2023/24 UCL group stage will kick off in September and will go through early December, before the knockout rounds arrive in the new year. Here's the details.Matchday 1: September 19/20Matchday 2: October 3/4Matchday 3: October 24/25Matchday 4: November 7/8Matchday 5: November 28/29Matchday 6: December 12/13The round of 16 draw will then take place on December 18.

Manchester City were unbelievable in their 2022/23 UCL run. The big side missing from this year's competition is 2020/21 winners Chelsea FC. The European giants had a catastrophe of a 2022/23 campaign, finishing 12th in the English Premier League.In addition to the Blues, Liverpool winners of the 2018/19 Champions League, just missed the cut and find themselves competing in the Europa League this year.Other names include Serie A side Juventus, Dutch giants Ajax, Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen and Ligue 1 side AS Monaco.
