Jonathan Philippe not in Kaizer Chiefs squad for Botswana tour

Kaizer Chiefs have decided against taking Argentine striker Jonathan Philippe to Botswana for their pre-season friendly against Township Rollers on Saturday.

He was believed to be in the squad for the friendly match against Rollers, but the technical team saw the need to leave him behind.

The former Boca Juniors frontman will reunite with the squad upon their return to South Africa next week.

Philippe will be hoping to convince the Steve Komphela to offer him a professional contract at Chiefs, as the 50-year-old is desperately looking to reinforce his striking department ahead of next season.

The Argentine striker scored eight goals in 31 appearances for Greek side Agrotikos Asteras last season.

He is currently a free agent following the expiry of his contract with Asteras at the end of June 2017.

Meanwhile, Siphiwe Tshabalala is also not part of the squad for the tour as he's still nursing a minor injury.

The veteran winger missed last week's Maize Cup tournament, but he is expected to be fit for the Soweto Derby clash with Orlando Pirates next weekend.
