Aloisi applauds Roar youngsters

John Aloisi said his younger players showed what they can do at senior level after helping Brisbane Roar advance in AFC Champions League (ACL) qualifying.

Roar eased past a plucky Global FC from the Philippines 6-0 at Suncorp Stadium to confirm a play-off with Gus Poyet's Shanghai Shenhua next week for a place in the ACL group stage.

Poyet has former Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus striker Carlos Tevez in his squad, with the Argentine forward reportedly on the most lucrative contract in world football.  

Aloisi was proud of how his younger squad players such as Shannon Brady, Dane Ingham and Joe Caletti stepped up on Tuesday night.

"It was good to give a lot of the young boys an opportunity to give them a taste of what it's like in Asia," Brisbane's coach told Fox Sports.

"And you have to be switched on in these games because the opposition have some quality players."

Aloisi added: "Those boys have been training with us now for a couple of seasons already so they know what we want. It's not easy to give them minutes but tonight was a perfect opportunity.

"But they all did well. Even Dane Ingham – he's not naturally a right back, he's learning that position."

The game was also useful for fringe players like Jacob Pepper and Jamie Young, as well as Brett Holman, who got some more minutes into his legs as he continues his return from injury.

Roar face Sydney FC on Friday night in a huge A-League clash in Brisbane.

Aloisi's men will then fly to China to play Shenhua on Wednesday.

The winner will progress into the Group E of the ACL alongside Kashima Antlers, Muangthong United and another qualifier.
