Francis Coquelin outlines season target with Valencia

Francis Coquelin is hoping to see Valencia secure a Champions League place at the end of the season.

Los Che arrested their poor form in LaLiga thanks to their 3-1 win over cross-city rivals, Levante, to stay in the third position – one point ahead of Real Madrid.

And the midfielder who won two FA Cup title and a Community Shield with Arsenal is not under pressure winning trophies with the Mestalla Stadium outfit.

However, he is keen on ending the season well with Marcelino García’s men: “If you come to a big club such as Valencia, you want to win stuff,” Coquelin told Goal.

“Copa Del Rey was a big chance for us to pick up a trophy as we got to the semi-finals of the competition, but unfortunately we were up against a great Barcelona side and in the end, they won the game.

“This season, a Champion’s League place is our main target. Hopefully next season we can push on from there.

“But for now, we need to focus on finishing the season strong and in a champion’s league position.”

The 26-year-old is expected to start when Valencia face Malaga in Saturday’s Spanish topflight encounter at La Rosaleda Stadium.
