Diego Castro commits to third season with Glory

Perth Glory have secured marquee forward Diego Castro for a third A-League season, with the Spanish veteran confirming his desire to stay in Western Australia at the club's awards night.

Castro won Perth's Most Glorious Player (MGP) award for the second straight year on Saturday night, earning double the amount of votes of second-placed Josh Risdon.

Glory had made it clear that retaining Castro's services had been one of coach Kenny Lowe's major priorities heading into the 2017-18 season but the club had been willing to wait as long as the Spaniard needed.

Previous reports had claimed Castro wouldn't provide an answer until much closer to the start of the new campaign.

"To win the MGP once is amazing and to go back to back is unbelievable," Castro said, according to Glory's website.

"The last two seasons in Perth has been a beautiful experience for my family and me and hopefully next year we can go all the way and grab the ultimate prize."

Castro scored 13 goals in 27 games for Glory in 2016-17 and notched seven assists, with the former Getafe and Sporting Gijon winger shining in Perth's 2-0 elimination final win over Melbourne City.

Last season, Castro won the Johnny Warren Medal as the A-League's best player with 13 goals and four assists in 26 games.

Castro finished second in the 2016-17 Johnny Warren Medal voting, just seven votes behind winner Milos Ninkovic.

Perth announced contract extensions for four players on Sunday, with winger Joel Chianese and goalkeepers Liam Reddy and Nick Feely signing new deals.

Glory have added two defenders to their squad as well, with Scott Neville rejoining his hometown club from Western Sydney Wanderers, while Jacob Poscoliero has left Central Coast Mariners to head west and young striker Joe Knowles has been promoted to Lowe's senior squad.

Ten players are leaving Glory, including Socceroos defender Rhys Williams - who is expected to sign with Melbourne Victory.

Fellow centre-back Dino Djulbic had already announced his departure, while ex-skipper Richard Garcia has retired.

Risdon - as expected - will replace Neville at Western Sydney, while Kosta Petratos was unveiled as a Newcastle Jets recruit in January.

Lucian Goian, Nebojsa Marinkovic, Mitch Oxborrow, Jordan Thurtell and Aryn Williams have also been released.
