Abdu Maikaba: Why Enyimba clash is important for Akwa United

Akwa United head coach Abdu Maikaba has revealed the importance of their Wednesday's clash against Enyimba, stressing their quest to make a top-four return with a win in Uyo.

After they piped Cofine FC 2-0 to emerge Akwa Ibom FA Cup champions on Sunday, the Promise Keepers are eyeing an outright win against Paul Aigbogun's side at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.

In April, the Uyo based outfit had played out a 1-1 draw against Enyimba in their initial meeting in Calabar and they will seek to claim the maximum points in the rescheduled tie.

With eight points adrift of leaders Lobi Stars, the former Wikki Tourist gaffer is increasingly optimistic his side can subdue the visitors to move further up the ladder.

"The game against Enyimba is an important game for us because we know where victory will take us to on the log," Maikaba told media.

"We know our opponents very well and we have prepared very well for them. We have committed players who are always ever ready to bring honour to the club and I believe that the game on Wednesday will encourage us to get back to where we truly want to be.

"We are in a very crucial stage in the league and for us to achieve our objective at the end of the season, we have to do our very best to win all our matches irrespective of where the matches are played.

"We have carefully worked on the confidence level of our players especially in front of goal and I can assure our fans and supporters that we will make them proud again."
