'He would have signed up for dying in Los Carmenes' - Wife of Granada fan pays touching tribute to husband who passed away during Athletic Club clash, months after cancer diagnosis

Life-long Granada supporter Antonio Trujillo suffered a heart attack during Sunday's game at Los Carmenes, causing play to be suspended in the 17th minute. After more than an hour, both clubs agreed to postpone the match with Athletic leading 1-0. His wife Nuria Aguilar told local newspaper Ideal that he had been diagnosed with cancer in May and was undergoing chemotherapy, but his illness had not dimmed his enthusiasm for going to see his team at every home game.

“My husband would have signed up to dying at Los Carmenes, of course," said Aguilar. "My husband always said that, like Granada, he would always fight until he died. He went to every game with a lot of hope. He was a season ticket holder for many years, since before they got promoted to La Liga. He never missed a game even if it rained."

Athletic goalkeeper Unai Simon informed the match officials that the fan was receiving treatment in the stands, which led to him being applauded by the home supporters. The teams remained on the pitch for another 20 minutes until returning to the dressing room and agreeing to postpone the game.

The match will resume on Monday from the 17th minute, the moment when play was stopped.
