Will Antony join Flamengo? Sensational return to Brazil ruled out for struggling £85m Man Utd winger

It was recently reported that United are considering signing Gabriel Barbosa from Flamengo in the January transfer window and would offer Antony on loan to the Brazilian team.

However, Fabrizio Romano claims that such an idea is not being considered and that the 23-year-old will not be making a move back to his homeland any time soon.

Rumours of a possible move for Antony come amid his dismal form for United. He has failed to score or register an assist in any competition so far this season.

Coach Erik ten Hag said that the break from training Antony took after being accused of physical and mental abuse by his ex-girlfriend is the reason behind his slump.

"[He was] out for a couple of weeks so that broke the rhythm," he said. "Had a good pre-season but had a break so now has to get himself back in good form. It's hard work."

The Brazil international joined United from Ajax in 2022 for a deal worth up to £85 million ($99m). He scored 18 goals in his time at Ajax and ended his debut campaign at United with eight goals and three assists.

Antony could be involved when United take on Copenhagen in the Champions League on Wednesday.
