Explained: Why Lamine Yamal's 'ghost goal' wasn't given as Spanish FA release audio from VAR review of controversial Clasico incident that sparked Barcelona request for Real Madrid game to be replayed

Barcelona went down 3-2 in El Clasico on Sunday despite taking the lead twice in the match as Real Madrid staged an incredible comeback win over their archrivals at Santiago Bernabeu. The game, however, was marred by controversy as Yamal's near-post flick in the first half - which seemed to have crossed the goal line - was denied by VAR. A day later, a disgruntled club president Joan Laporta released a scathing statement as he claimed his club could consider appealing for a potential replay of Clasico.

Around the same time as Laporta's statement came out, the RFEF released audio from the VAR review of Yamal's 'ghost goal' where VAR official Sanchez Martinez can be heard telling on-field referee Soto Grado that there was no conclusive evidence of the ball completely crossing the goal line.

In the audio released by the RFEF, Martinez can be heard telling Grado: "There is no evidence that the ball has gone in."

The Catalan giants, however, may not be fully satisfied with the VAR audio disclosure as the lack of goal-line technology in La Liga makes any replay inconclusive.

After back-to-back defeats against Paris Saint-Germain and Los Blancos, Xavi's side will aim to get back to winnings way on Sunday as they take on Valencia at home in La Liga.
